Swedish media covered Thunbergs protest, and also spread the story. Thousands of students around the globe joined in the #FridaysforFuture protest, avoiding Friday school to protest the effects of climate change. Climate activists from around the world joined together for the inaugural Global Strike for Climate. This was a huge success. More than 1.6 million participants across 125 nations took part.
